Dawn Alliance members were pleased to welcome new member Aitken & Partners recently. Principal John Aitken and his team are highly experienced in radio and electromagnetic systems compatibility particularly with regards to railway operations. This specialist area is vital for ensuring the on-going safety and integrity of modern signalling systems.
In welcoming Aitken & Partners to Dawn Alliance, chairman David Edwards noted that Aitken & Partners further expands the already broad offering to the transport and safety sectors, providing clients with valuable expertise and experience.
The recent split of key standards body RISSB from the ARA has left small business out in the cold. Until the split, all memers of the ARA had access to the RISSB standards, a crucial tool in managing rail safety in Australia. With the separation of RISSB from ARA, ARA members are cut off from access to the standards unless they pay a separate membership fee to RISSB, more than doubling the cost and a real burden to the smaller members of the ARA.
Recognising that this situation needed to be challenged, Dawn Alliance members have led the charge in bringing the matter to a head with both the ARA and RISSB senior management, fighting for an equitable outcome that will both preserve membership of the ARA and access to the RISSB standards.
Dawn Alliance Chairman David Edwards said "By calling the two organisations to account and making it clear that the smaller members are being severly disadvantaged, Dawn Alliance is not only looking after its own interests, but those of all small business members of the ARA."
To their credit, the management of both ARA and RISSB have recognised the problem that the split has caused and are working with organisations like Dawn Alliance to arrive at an acceptable solution.
In March, Dawn Alliance welcomed new member C.A.T.S., further expanding the group's range services offered to its customers.

Dawn Alliance Chairman David Edwards congratulated C.A.T.S. principals Colin Bailey and Jordi McElhinney on becoming members, reflecting that they were bringing even greater breadth of services to an already strong group offering a broad range of services to its combined clientele.
Dawn Alliance participated as an exhibitor at the recent Rail Track Association of Australia (RTAA) Field days held at Clyde Yard in Sydney on 25 and 26 February 2015.Click here to see some pictures of the event.
The RTAA Field Days are an annual event to showcase all of the major rail infrastructure maintenance providers and their equipment along with a wide range of other rail industry supporting suppliers. This year's event was a huge success with over 3,000 visitors having attended over the two days to see the latest rail maintenance equipment some of which were conducting working demonstrations. The Dawn Alliance exhibition stand was located in a prime position within the main internal exhibition area and visitor interest in the stand was strong during both days.
Congratulations to Dawn Alliance member David Bull as RTAA Vice President and his wife Sandy Bull as the RTAA Field Day Event Manager who both did a wonderful job in helping to make the 2015 event such a great success.

Dawn Alliance exhibited at the recent Rail Safety 2014 conference held in Sydney, Australia.
Most members were able to attend at various times and had the opportunity to meet with conference delegates to discuss the broad range of services that members can offer. It was most pleasing to note the level of interest shown in Dawn Alliance and our member companies.
Our business card lucky draw with a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label Whisky as a prize was a real hit. The winner of the draw was Georgia Leach of the ARA TrackSafe Foundation. It was great to meet with Georgia and the many others who stopped by for chat.

In September, Dawn Alliance member Alan Ross was appointed as a director to the Australasian Railways Association's Rail Suppliers Network Australasia (RSNA). The RSNA is a group tasked with promoting the interests of smaller enterprises supplying goods and services to the Australasian railway industry. As such it offers opportunities to increase the visability of the Dawn Alliance and its members. The appointment is one of the early tangible benefits of the Dawn Alliance incorporating.
In August, the Dawn Alliance members agreed to incoprorate the group. The new company, Dawn Alliance Pty Ltd will enhance the operational effectiveness of the group and allow it to participate in activities such as representation on industry bodies.
Company Chairman, David Edwards, was keen to point out that the change would not compromise the group's ethos or members' commitment to providing excellent service to their individual customers. David said "The Dawn Alliance is all about allowing our members to offer their customers a broader range of services than they could provide as individual companies. Incorporation will enhance our ability to represent our members, but in the end it is all about our integrity, service quality and reputation and we look forward to delivering value to our clients.".
